A sailor sets sail…
A singer gets on board to try her luck …
A seaman is searching for the woman, whose name is tattooed on his chest…
A Chinese mistress waits for her captain in Shanghai port…
And a mermaid devours one fisherman after another.
AHOI! - …she pulled him in partway, he sank in the rest…
Ascacibar – the sounds of the South Seas, saltwater and tropical islands. Yearning, coffin ships and port beer dives. Thoroughly maritime. No wonder that she eventually begins to sing of the sea – her family tree is full of seamen, captains, buccaneers and adventurers. The sea has been literally poured into her crib. “What Ascacibar wants to do most is tell stories, and as a distanced sailor, as Rosita, a tango diva coquette and as a shy mermaid, she has startling success” (NDR).
Together with musicians Maik Schott (keyboards) and Sönke Rust (strings), she combines tango, jazz elements and pop hits as well as texts from Joachim Ringelnatz, Albrecht von Scharfenberg and Johann Wolfgang von Goethe to a completely new melange or earnestness, passion and abandonment to yearning, life and the sea, and takes us for a ride through the seaports of this world and on the peaks of ocean waves.
Her voice is simply electrifying, spanning the width between wicked and spent to merry chirping, sending chills over the audience or drawing tears from their eyes … a top-notch evening!

Sabrina Ascacibar’s theater performance “Ahoi!” develops an amazing undertow. One slip, and you find yourself at sea, or even below it. The musical arrangements (guitar and refined keyboard accompaniment) are cream of the crop, and suddenly one hears sailors’ songs anew, with an even bigger joy than before. You’ve got to go!
